Some say Newnham on Severn is in the Forest of Dean, it is certainly on the edge of it, and it comes under the control of the Forest of Dean District Council. We have organised this website so that day to day items which relate to living in Newnham are under the heading LIVING. If you are wanting for information about accommodation or local businesses, look under the heading VISITING. If all else fails please use the search box at the top right.
Here you will find links to local:-
and many other useful bits of local information.
Our local District Council is the Forest of Dean District Council
Are you driving to Bristol via the M48 today? Check before you set off to see if the Severn Bridge is open or closed.
The toll for cars is £6.60 still only collected when you travel westwards from the direction of London towards Wales.
There is information on their website site for planned scheduled maintenance too.
Near real time Tide heights at Avonmouth
Gloucester Harbour Trustees have an excellent web site filled important advice and information about the Severn
including safety and regulations. Under the section titled “Shipping and Weather” you can see the exact height of the water at
Sharpness in real time – so you will know if the water level will be higher or lower than predicted an hour later at Newnham.
Jolly useful for those who want to go paddling in the river. Please don’t go into the water unless you know the time of the next
tide and have sought experienced local advice. For planning ahead get yourself a copy of Arrowsmith’s Bristol Channel Tide Tables – available
from Newnham Post Office.
Remember at Newnham’s high water is 1 hour after High Water at Lydney and just under 2 hours after Avonmouth. For Bore times visit our Visitor’s page.
If you need a local bus time table, Stagecoach are the people.
If you need help with local community transport follow this link to Forest Routes
This is much easier than the old method.
